At Brave MMA, we believe in setting our athletes up for success. That’s why our Kickboxing program is only available to those who have graduated from our Boxing Basics class. While it might be tempting to jump straight into kickboxing, we take a thoughtful, structured approach to ensure you’re fully prepared to learn and apply advanced techniques safely and effectively.
Here’s why Boxing Basics is a crucial step:
1. Mastering Footwork and Fighting Stance
Kickboxing requires solid footwork and a balanced stance. In Boxing Basics, you’ll develop the necessary footwork to move fluidly and maintain a strong, stable base. This is essential not only for effective punches but also for proper movement when incorporating kicks. Without proper footwork, your kicks can be slow, inefficient, and leave you vulnerable to counterattacks.
2. Understanding Hip Rotation and Coordination
A key component of powerful kicks and punches is proper hip rotation. In Boxing Basics, you’ll learn how to rotate your hips for maximum power and efficiency in punches. This fundamental principle applies directly to kicks, and by mastering it in boxing first, you’ll be able to transition smoothly into using your hips for both punches and kicks in kickboxing.
3. Developing Punching Technique
Before we add kicks to your game, we want to ensure your punching technique is strong and effective. Boxing Basics focuses on the correct form for punches—jabs, crosses, hooks, and uppercuts—ensuring that you generate power from your core, maintain proper alignment, and avoid injury. Once these punches are second nature, you’ll be able to seamlessly integrate kicks without losing speed or power.
4. Building the Strength and Conditioning You Need
Kickboxing is a full-body workout that demands both strength and endurance. The Boxing Basics class is designed to build the cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and muscular endurance necessary to perform kickboxing techniques effectively. By the time you graduate from Boxing Basics, you’ll have a solid fitness base to endure the intensity of kickboxing training.
5. Ensuring Safety and Proper Progression
Starting with Boxing Basics ensures that you don’t skip vital foundational skills. Progressing into kickboxing without the right knowledge can result in bad habits, ineffective techniques, and a higher risk of injury. By mastering the basics first, we help you develop good habits that will make your transition into more advanced techniques much smoother and safer.
The Gradual Transition: From Boxing to Kickboxing
After you’ve completed the Boxing Basics class, you’ll have the fundamental skills and fitness level required to successfully incorporate kicks into your repertoire. The Kickboxing class will then build on your solid boxing foundation, adding in striking with kicks, combinations, and defensive movements while continuing to refine the skills you’ve already learned.
This structured progression ensures that each student has the proper tools to succeed, perform with confidence, and avoid injury.
Our Kickboxing program is designed to help you progress to the next level, whether for fitness, self-defense, or competition.
Once you’ve graduated from Boxing Basics, expect the Kickboxing program to push you to new heights of fitness, strength, and skill.
