A collaboration between BRAVE MMA and Raha Psychology
The Guardians of Tomorrow program, a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering at-risk youth in our community, particularly those from BIPOC communities.
Our program is driven by a singular and profound goal: to equip these young individuals with the essential life skills, resilience, and positive role models they need to thrive and succeed, despite the challenges they may face. We recognize the pressing issue of gang involvement among our youth, and we are committed to addressing it head-on through structured martial arts training, psychological support, and meaningful community engagement.
At its core, Guardians of Tomorrow offers a comprehensive range of activities carefully designed to meet the diverse needs of at-risk youth. Picture this: bi-weekly Jiu Jitsu classes, where these young individuals not only learn self-defense techniques but also develop discipline, focus, and confidence – invaluable qualities that will serve them well throughout their lives.
But our program goes beyond physical training. We recognize the importance of mental well-being, which is why we offer regular therapy sessions facilitated by trained psychologists. These sessions provide a safe space for participants to explore their emotions, develop coping strategies, and build emotional resilience – essential tools for navigating life’s challenges.
Furthermore, our program is deeply rooted in culture and community. Through strategic partnerships with esteemed institutions such as the Alwijdaan Institute of Canada and Gurdwara Siri Guru Singh Sabha, we integrate cultural activities and engagement into our program. These partnerships not only provide participants with a sense of cultural connection and belonging but also foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of their heritage.
We target individuals under the age of 18, with a particular focus on at-risk youth in our community. These young individuals come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds and cultural identities. Many of them face significant barriers, including financial constraints and cultural stigma surrounding mental health. However, they also possess incredible strengths – resilience, cultural connection, and a desire for a better future. Our program aims to build upon these strengths while mitigating risk factors associated with gang involvement through structured activities, mentorship, and psychological support.
The benefits are manifold. Participants gain essential life skills, resilience, and positive relationships – reducing their susceptibility to gang involvement and setting them on a path towards success. Through cultural activities and partnerships, we foster community connection and support, providing a sense of belonging and empowerment to at-risk youth. And let’s not forget our unwavering commitment to mental health support – ensuring that participants receive the necessary psychological support and guidance to navigate life’s challenges effectively.
In conclusion, Guardians of Tomorrow is more than just a program – it’s a beacon of hope, a catalyst for change, and a testament to the power of community. Together, we can empower our youth, transform lives, and build a safer, more resilient Edmonton for generations to come.
